WILDLIFE EMERGENCY
Please help today!
Millions of gallons of oil have oozed into the water since the April 20th rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. Some estimates calculate the oil flow to be over 70,000 barrels of oil a day—making the BP spill already eight times larger than Exxon Valdez!
And we still don't know when it will stop.
The wildlife casualties are adding up. Oil has officially hit land, and numerous sea turtles, dolphins and migratory birds have all been reported dead or dying on gulf beaches. Sadly, this is just the beginning of the uphill battle wildlife in the region now face.
Please donate today to help protect the over 400 species of treasured wildlife that stand to lose so much from this devastating tragedy. Your support will go right to work protecting wildlife and wild places impacted by the BP oil spill disaster.

P.S. - We were totally scammed today..... apparently its a well known scam and we are just one of the many suckers... more on that later.. it needs its own post! Hey you haven't really lived until you've been scammed in China, right? Uh.. right? We'll chalk it up to a learning experience!
I hate hearing about the oil spill. It's so terrible and really does break my heart. Thank you for posting this. It's good to know where we can all donate to, that will honestly put our money to good use.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so upset and want to cry right here at my work desk. I just posted on my own blog about the oil spill.

I will definitely donate as this spill affecting our wildlife hurts me so much. I hate seeing animals in pain or impacted some environmental disaster. BP definitely needs to PAY UP also!
Thank you for posting something about the oil spill. It is such a terrible thing and the repercussions of the event seem like they'll be around forever which is such a shame. I hope a solution is found to stop the oil from spilling in to the ocean soon.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love your posts on the experience you are having in China!! 5 years ago I spent half a year abroad in Spain and wish blogging had been as big as it is now, it's such a great way to share the experience with those back at home!
Here's a neat tool to help understand the size of the oil spill - "relocate" it using google maps.

I am so glad you posted this, I am planning on blogging (more like getting on a soap box and voicing my frustration) about the spill this afternoon. It's such a heartbreaking thing to see what is happening down on the gulf!
ReplyDeleteI just donated - love the text method and didn't realize they had set this up! Thank you for spreading the word.
ReplyDeleteSorry about being scammed - I am so curious now about what happened! Please do post about it!
P.S. Text "WILDLIFE" to 2022 - texting "SAVE" will donate $10 to earthquake relief in Haiti (still a great cause of course).
ReplyDeleteThe whole oil spill ordeal is absolutely heartbreaking. Those poor creatures are probably wondering what the heck happened :(
ReplyDeleteKate - I will definitely post about it soon! Probably tomorrow night, during the day we are hiking the Great Wall!
ReplyDeleteTherealLC - what a neat experience!! I am really glad you enjoy reading the China related posts!
All - I'm so happy so many people care about this issue!
Steph
Oh and Kate - thanks for reminding us about the easy way to donate to Haiti. I know it happened a few months ago and its easy to forget but they still need our help.

such a great post, this oil spill is making me sick thinking about what it is doing to the animals, ocean and environment =( Something needs to be done!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a HUGE HUGE animal lover, so this just breaks my heart and makes me feel so sick. Thanks for your thoughtful post Steph.
ReplyDeleteSorry you got scammed! How awful. I want to read your post on that. Luckily we never got scammed in S.A. Anyways, yes, this is devastating. While looking at these photos I know my face distorts in horror. Eek. It makes me sick.
ReplyDeleteRachael.
p.s. I am off to check my email! Look for one in response soon.
I hope it's ok, I linked a post to your blog for info on the NWF. Let me know if you would like me to remove it :).
ReplyDeleteI'm in Florida so we hear about it in some form or other every single day. I can't believe it's been allowed to continue this long! Why did they not have a plan for a catostrophic event like this? I just don't understand how oil companies don't have to have emergency plans like every other company?
ReplyDeleteI still cant believe the oil spill is still going on!
ReplyDeleteIts horrible and so heartbreaking for the animals! =(
I am so devastated for those poor innocent animals. The pictures of these poor animals make me both nauseous and horrified and teary-eyed at the same time. Thank goodness there are people out there helping save the animals they can.
