Why am I blogging from a hotel room, you ask? Why am I inside and not exploring Southern China?
The answer would be... that... I am sick. Again. I'll have you know, prior to moving to China, the last time I was sick was 2007. Moved to China and something is always making me sick! I blame it on the food situation... anyway... hopefully this will pass before we move on tomorrow. Night trains, while sick, are not fun. I know, because I was "lucky" enough to experience it the night before last.
Anyway, I was looking through some of our pictures from the last couple days and some were making me laugh.
This picture was taken inside a kid's playroom. Baowei Zuguo, 保卫祖国,means "Protect the Homeland."
I thought this was hysterical, seeing as how it was in a children's playroom, and the drawing is of a little kid carrying something like an AK-47!
And then around town, we saw some awesome signs and translations..
The same Chinese, two different English translations.
And I think we can all agree... shopping should be rational!
I was going to add a few more pics, but am suddenly feeling tired and am going to rest. DON'T FORGET to enter the giveaway!! Enter in the post below this one.

Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI don't quite get how shopping should be rational? What is the meaning of the translation? Have I been shopping irrationally all this time?
Hahaha you gotta love Chinglish. Hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteOh Steph! Feel better soon. Those signs are funny...
ReplyDeleteLOL at the rational shopping! Hope you feel better soon babe
ReplyDeleteHaha I am always so in love with their translations, just epic!! I was really sick when I was in Beijing too. Its awful :( Hope you feel better soon, girl!
ReplyDeleteI totally don't understand those translations! The first one is particularly amusing. =)
ReplyDeleteWhat would be the correct English?
And I hope you aren't feeling sick for much longer!

LOL. Yes, those are quirky things only found in China.
ReplyDeleteI saw a sign that meant "No Toilette". It said "No Sh*t" on it.
Hope you feel better! When my brother moved to Japan he was sick for a long time. It really took him awhile to get used to all the different germs in another country!
ReplyDeleteOh Steph, I love reading about your adventures (even if I don't always have significant comments to make). Thanks for sharing these entertaining pictures!
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon! :)
The thing is, the translations aren't bad! I think the problem is the ideas don't translate well into English.
ReplyDeleteI think what they mean by rational shopping - at least how I interpreted it - is to not go crazy and spend out of your means or just blindly buy things - be logical about it! Hah.
