Hong Kong help!

HI everyone - currently planning a trip to Hong Kong and hoping for some help from my readers! If you've been, what area is the best place to stay in? Hong Kong seems huge and I'm having a hard time figuring out where to stay.

    hi :) i'm blogging from Hong Kong, i might not be familiar with the hotel scene here but if you want any place to shop, drop me an email :) I'd say the best area to shop is Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Causeway Bay and Central.

    Jennifer - the two hotels we are considering are in Causeway bay and Mong Kok Which area do you think would be best for tourists? We are all HK first-timers. 4 adults, 2 kids about 10 years old. Bars and nightlife are not important really. Thanks so much!

    Honestly, since subway goes everywhere I think the most important thing is try to be as close to subway station as possible.

    hi hi, we usually stay at the novotel nathan road. it's about 2 mins walk to the mtr(subway). local eats, mcdonalds ,starbucks are just near by. the airport shuttle bus, stops at this hotel, it's very convenient.

    I just came back from a China/HK trip. In HK, we stayed at Metropark Hotel in Mongkok for 3 nights(they have chains everywhere. It was decent, and they had non smoking floors. We mainly used it for sleeping, since we were out all day. It's walking distance to the shopping areas, and the metro is close by as well.

    I've been a few times and love it. I'm not sure what kind of traveler you are but my wife and I have backpacked quite a lot and have stayed in Dragon Hostel on Kowloon near Mongkok station. It's a very busy area of the city and great place to get a feel of the vibe. The Hostel only offers small private rooms. Some have a shared bath, others have a private bath. The owner, Stanley and family, are the best hosts and know the city very well. Have fun and take lot's of pics.

    I would recommend staying on Kowloon vs HK Island. It just seems Kowloon has more going on. :)

    Hi there! Love your blog, Ms Hark!
    I'm from Hong Kong. Since you have two kids in the group, and assuming that none of you speaks Cantonese, I would say Causeway Bay is a better choice than Mong Kok. Jonathan is right about Kowloon having lots of going on's, but Causeway Bay is just as busy and fun :) Hope you'll have a great time!

    Thanks for the input! We chose Causeway Bay. Nothing fancy but it will do the job! None of us speak Cantonese, 2 of us speak Mandarin, but I know that is useless in HK.

    Don't worry too much, Hong Kongers' Mandarin is getting better these days because of the many tourists from Mainland China! Maybe a little lost in translation from time to time, but that should just add more colors to your trip ;)
