Matchmaker Matchmaker in Beijing!

In my other post I mentioned that my husband stumbled upon the dating market in the park, where the parents set up booths as a way to hook up their kids. Well, tomorrow we are going out in search of this phenomenon... but in the meantime, since I think you guys found that pretty interesting... I remembered watching this episode of "Sexy Beijing" (her twist on Sex and the City) a couple years ago... its really entertaining and so interesting, also from a foreigner's perspective. Check it out! You will definitely enjoy it I think.

The main part when Sufei goes to the park starts at 4:07 if you would rather skip straight to that part... there is English as well as Chinese, but also English subtitles. Its actually really entertaining!

What do you guys think? Isn't Sufei awesome?

I am on my way out the door - our first Chinese friend is taking us all around the city today to show us his favorite spots, non-touristy shopping areas & his favorite Chinese restaurants! How fun!

  5. Lol, just made my boyfriend watch the vid too. Her chinese is SO impressive! When the old ladies start talking fast and slurring their words, I have trouble understanding them but apparently Sufei is a pro. Thanks for sharing!

  6. Marissa - I figured only one or two people would watch it, I know I usually skip over videos too... but I am glad you watched it and enjoyed it! it really is a fun video.

Jean - I know, her Chinese is awesome. She has lived here for several years now and I am pretty sure her Chinese studies go waaaay back, at least 10 years (I think I remember that from something I read about her). Sometimes the Beijing accent is so strong its really hard to understand. I think its just a matter of getting used to it. Last night the guy at our apartment said in Chinese "I forgot your Chinese name" and my husband and I both had no idea what he was saying! LOL. It sounded like "rrrr.. rrrrrr.. .rrr!" 我们就需要习惯!

Thanks for commenting guys! I've had a sore throat the past few days so I actually decided to stay in & try to get better today.

  15. Lyddie - its an ancient saying! hah. Whenever I watch Revolutionary Road Kate Winslet says something similar and it makes me cringe every time I hear it.
