Anthropologie's Ipanema Dress
I don't know what it is about this dress (I actually think it has a lot to do with the photograph!) ... but to me, its just stunning. I love it.
It reminds me of travel... of jetting off to a tropical island, a foreign land, the sound of an exotic language I don't understand, sunny days spent poolside, lush tropical rain forests, browsing boutiques amidst palm trees lined streets, and enjoying hot, sultry nights with the warm ocean breeze blowing by. I can feel that when I look at this dress. I love the sunny color, the airy gauze, the lace detail, the coiled appliques on the neck.
And so, although I should be packing (movers come on WEDNESDAY!) ... I am going to procrastinate and head to Anthropologie to try this on.
The hardest part of the move is this part - separating what clothes I want to come with me for the next 2 months, and which clothes have to go in the boxes that will be shipped straight to China, unavailable to me for the next 2 months! That is a hard decision, I am sure you guys can imagine! I hate packing for trips, and this is even more difficult!
But hopefully I'll have some reviews for you later & maybe some new stuff to share!
UPDATE: And... it actually looks like I won't be trying this dress on today. It doesn't come out for another couple weeks. I'm still headed to Macy's though!

omg too funny! I was just stalking this dress earlier today in my hunt for a cute, springy, casual sundress. My fear is that it's really shapeless on, can't wait for your review :)
ReplyDeleteI love this dress!! So beachy and care-free. I cannot imagine picking clothes for 2 months.Yikes...good luck!
ReplyDeleteE hayes - me too. Its not really cute just looking at it on the hanger... but on the model, its amazing. I wonder if part of it has to do with the breeze lifting it like that in the pic. Anyway, calling my Anthro now to see if they have it - I decided I shouldn't waste valuable time getting there if they don't have it yet!
ReplyDeleteActually now that I look at it closely - I wonder if they are pinning it back on her. It looks gathered in the back. I bet it will be shapeless. lol
ReplyDeleteVery cute, I am loving yellow this spring! I am interested in the fit, it does look pinned, I hope not!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why designers make things so shapeless if they are just going to pin it back on the models to give it more shape!!! ahh! I have a feeling this is the case. I will let you guys know!
ReplyDeleteyeah it seemed sorta "shift dress-esque" on the dress form. A cute belt would give it a nice wait, but would need to find the "right" belt since it's such an airy fabric...
ReplyDeleteits the bright mustard yellow colour that makes it a very cute and attractive dress!! and summer is written all over it!

I love the wind-swept effect on that dress! Feels like Hawaii to me...
ReplyDeleteGood luck packing, I can't imagine having to make those decisions!
And - I had an "it's a small world" moment when I read your comment yesterday - you and Maia! Such wordly ladies, I envy you both! =)

Aww, pretty dress! Good luck with the packing, I know it is a nightmare!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely dress. It really is hard to decide what to take! I am quite sick of my clothes right now. I tell you one thing, I wish I would have brought more dresses and a comfort throw on skirt in a shade that will go with anything. Don't bring anything you love too much because your bag could get lost or stolen, and if you are wearing the same ten or whatever shirts over and over they get worn fast!!!! And you might want to make room for new clothes. So make sure you bring clothes you could give away or throw away for room for new loves!

great shade of yellow on the dress! have fun in china... good luck. :)
ReplyDeletethank you for the comments on my blog and also for following me! you are the first one, I should give you a prize or something :D well, I'm following you too! but, I didn't figure out how to change the icon, I meant the icon that shows next to the url address, you have a little pink flower there. I tried to add some html codes, but unsuccessfully :(
ReplyDeleteOk, this dress is awesome!! I just got my anthro catalog.....and drooled when I saw all the awesomeness inside. I would have to agree with EHayes though...it does look pretty shapeless...even a belt might make it look puffy....not a good look. :) hahahaha. but if you are running like the model.??? for sure!!! :) I can't believe you have to pack up all your stuff and ship it. When my husband and I moved home, we had 14 suitcases a 6 week old baby and a 2 year old. OH MY GOODNESS!! It was crazy. You should have seen us in the airport....heads cut off seriously. good luck packing...feel free to mail me any leftovers..your style is awesome. Speaking of..just ordered the Rare Bloom Tee this morning.....ya know, the vneck with the fat bloom on the front? LOVE it and LOVE the price....29.95?? awesome!!!! can't wait to get it :)
ReplyDeleteKel, I know, I can't imagine traveling to (and in) China with kids! Friends that are moving with us have THREE kids, two under 2 and one is about 5. Crazy! And their flight has a layover, ours is direct, go figure!
ReplyDeleteI also have the rare bloom tee, except I bought it full price, ahh! I love it! The only thing is, be warned, its really low cut! I was surprised. I wonder how others wear it - if they put a cami underneath. hmph! Mine is turquoise. Enjoy it!
agreed with deconstruction- i can not wear yellow or orange for that matter. I am so fair skinned it washes me out! i love the dress and saw it in the store friday it is gorgeous!

The Rare bloom T is low cut? dang, the picture does NOT show that. hmmmm....I got the navy, so...maybe a light lime colored cami under it would be good....would have to be thin. Hmmm..now I am going to have to think about this. I am no contemplating the Falling Ribbon Cardigan..have you seen it? It's 19.95 in my wishlist....but I think maybe too winter/boring. It has the ribbon on it that goes zigzag.....what to do...Do you have Joe's jeans? I have only owned AG Stevies. I just bought some Joes and am anxiously awaiting there arrival. :) jeans make me sooo happy!!! traveling with kids in china.....difficult. You just throw them in a cab. Scarey!
ReplyDeleteI know, I didn't realize how low cut it was until I wore it out.
ReplyDeleteIf you google "rare bloom tee low cut" you can find some posts about it, even some pics. Its not awful but you may or may not need a cami under it - I hate that though, because I don't want to ruin the look of it!
I have Joe's jeans and I really like them! Let me know how you like them & how the rare bloom tee works out for you. As for the falling ribbons cardigan, I think its something I'd pass on - Kim at Anthroholic said its really itchy & I am super sensitive to itchy sweaters! Which also makes me think it may be an Autumn/Winter kind of top.
I love that BRIGHT DRESS!!! Ahhhhhhhhh!
ReplyDeleteSo you're off to China in their summer? That dress is perfect! Gosh, we'll just be neighbors when you move. Just a couple of hours by plane away from Manila. xoxo
ReplyDeleteLeah - yes! In 1 month I leave for China for a year! I am going to be doing a lot of traveling & I hope to get to see Manila, too.
